Equipment

  • Blender
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Fine-mesh sieve (optional)
  • Cheesecloth (optional)
  • Large pitcher
  • Spoon
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons

Ingredients

  • 6 cups cubed watermelon or other fruit cantaloupe, pineapple, strawberries, mango, guava
  • 4 cups filtered water
  • Juice of 2 limes
  • 2 tablespoons agave nectar, honey, or simple syrup optional
  • Fresh mint or basil sprigs, for garnish optional

Instructions

  • Wash your chosen fruit thoroughly. Peel and remove any seeds or pits.
  • Chop the fruit into roughly 1-inch pieces.
  • Add the chopped fruit to a blender.
  • Pour in enough water to almost cover the fruit.
  • Blend on high speed until the mixture is completely smooth and there are no chunks of fruit remaining (about 1-2 minutes).
  • For a super smooth fruit water, strain the puree through a fine-mesh sieve lined with cheesecloth (optional).
  • Pour the strained (or unstrained) fruit puree into a large pitcher.
  • Add the remaining water and the fresh lime juice.
  • Stir well to combine.
  • Taste the fruit water and add sweetener, if desired. Start with a small amount (1-2 tablespoons) and adjust to your preference.
  • Refrigerate the fruit water for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Serve over ice and garnish with fresh mint or basil, if desired.
  • Enjoy immediately!

Notes

Choose ripe fruit for the best flavor and sweetness. Adjust the amount of sweetener and lime juice to your personal taste. For a less pulpy drink, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth. Store leftover fruit water in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. For a spicy kick, add a pinch of chili powder. For a tropical twist, combine pineapple, mango, and coconut water.
