Equipment

  • Blender
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth (optional)
  • Glasses for serving

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped nopal prickly pear cactus pad
  • 2 cups chopped fresh pineapple
  • 1 cup water more or less, to adjust consistency
  • ½ lime, juiced optional, for extra tang
  • Sweetener of choice optional, such as honey, agave, or stevia
  • Ice cubes, for serving

Instructions

  • Rinse the chopped nopal thoroughly under cold water to remove any lingering slime.
  • Add the nopal, pineapple, water, and lime juice (if using) to a blender.
  • Blend on high speed until the mixture is completely smooth. Ensure no chunks of nopal or pineapple remain.
  • If the juice is too thick, add more water, a little at a time, until you reach your desired consistency.
  • Taste the juice and add sweetener if needed. Start with a small amount and add more to taste, considering the pineapple's sweetness.
  • For a smoother juice, strain it through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove any remaining pulp (optional).
  • Pour the juice over ice cubes and enjoy immediately. Garnish with a pineapple wedge or a sprig of mint for an extra touch of elegance (optional).

Notes

Use ripe pineapple for the sweetest and most flavorful juice. Chill the nopal and pineapple before blending for an extra refreshing drink. Don't over-blend, as it can make the juice foamy. Adjust the ingredients to your preferences, experimenting with other fruits and vegetables like cucumber or celery. For best flavor and nutritional value, drink immediately. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours, stirring before drinking. Freezing is not recommended. You can also add a small piece of fresh ginger for a spicy kick.
