Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Small plastic cups or shot glasses
  • Shallow Dish
  • Small bowl
  • Refrigerator

Ingredients

  • 6 ounces apple juice
  • ½ cup apple cider
  • ¼ cup vodka or apple pie moonshine
  • ¼ cup apple brandy or apple liqueur like apple pucker
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of ground cloves
  • 1 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, pour 1/2 cup of the apple juice over the gelatin. Let it sit for about 5 minutes to bloom.
  • In a small saucepan, combine the remaining apple juice, apple cider, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  • Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is just simmering. Don't boil it!
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the bloomed gelatin mixture. Whisk until the gelatin is completely dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
  • Let the mixture cool slightly (about 5 minutes) before adding the vodka (or moonshine!) and apple brandy/liqueur.
  • Carefully pour the mixture into your plastic cups or shot glasses, filling them almost to the top. If you're planning on adding the graham cracker crust, leave a little space at the top.
  • Place the filled cups in the refrigerator and chill for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, until they are completely set.
  • While the jello shots are chilling, prepare the graham cracker crust. In a shallow dish, combine the graham cracker crumbs, melted butter, and granulated sugar. Mix well until evenly moistened.
  • Once the jello shots are completely set, gently sprinkle a layer of the graham cracker crumb mixture over the top of each shot.
  • Gently press the crust down with your fingers to help it adhere.
  • Keep the Apple Pie Jello Shots refrigerated until ready to serve.

Notes

Store leftover Apple Pie Jello Shots in the refrigerator, covered, for up to 3 days. The graham cracker crust may soften slightly over time, but they'll still taste delicious. For variations, consider adding diced apple pie filling, a caramel drizzle, or whipped cream. A non-alcoholic version can be made by omitting the alcohol and replacing it with more apple juice or cider. Experiment with different crusts like gingersnaps or shortbread cookies.
