Equipment

  • Air fryer
  • Small microwave-safe bowl
  • Medium bowl
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Measuring spoons
  • Measuring cups (optional)
  • Spatula or spoon

Ingredients

  • 2 medium apples Honeycrisp, Gala, Fuji, or Granny Smith
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg optional
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract optional
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup optional
  • Squeeze of lemon juice optional

Instructions

  • Wash and core the apples. Slice them into rings, wedges, or dice them into smaller pieces.
  • In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter for about 30 seconds, or until completely melted.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon (and optional nutmeg, vanilla or maple syrup). Mix well.
  • Add the prepared apples to the bowl with the butter mixture. Toss gently until all the apples are thoroughly coated.
  • Place the coated apples in the air fryer basket in a single layer, avoiding overcrowding. Cook in batches if needed.
  • Set the air fryer to 350°F (175°C) and cook for 8-12 minutes, depending on the size and type of apples. Check after 8 minutes.
  • The apples should be tender and slightly caramelized. If needed, continue cooking for a few more minutes, checking frequently to prevent burning.
  • Carefully remove the air fryer apples from the basket and let them cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For best results, use firm apples that hold their shape during cooking. Don't overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking. Adjust cooking time based on your air fryer model and apple variety. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, chopped nuts, or a drizzle of caramel sauce. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer or microwave. For a crispier topping, consider adding a sprinkle of chopped nuts or granola before cooking. A squeeze of lemon juice helps prevent browning and adds a touch of acidity.
