Equipment

  • Large Skillet or Wok
  • Small bowl
  • Whisk
  • Spoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Colander
  • Pot for boiling noodles

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha
  • 8 ounces dried egg noodles
  • Sesame seeds for garnish
  • Chopped green onions for garnish
  • Red pepper flakes for garnish

Instructions

  • Cook the noodles according to package directions until al dente. Drain and rinse with cold water to prevent sticking. Set aside.
  • Heat vegetable oil and sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  • Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through. Drain off any excess grease.
  • Add minced garlic and ginger to the skillet and cook for about 30 seconds, or until fragrant.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, cornstarch, beef broth, hoisin sauce, and sriracha until the cornstarch is fully dissolved.
  • Pour the sauce over the cooked beef in the skillet.
  • Bring the sauce to a simmer, stirring constantly, until it thickens and becomes glossy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the cooked noodles to the skillet with the beef and sauce.
  • Toss everything together until the noodles are evenly coated in the sticky sauce.
  • Serve immediately, garnished with sesame seeds, chopped green onions, and red pepper flakes, if desired.

Notes

If the sauce becomes too thick, add a tablespoon or two of beef broth (or water) at a time until it reaches your desired consistency. If the sauce isn't thickening, mix another teaspoon of cornstarch with a tablespoon of cold water and add it to the sauce while it's simmering, stirring continuously until thickened. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or skillet, adding a splash of water or beef broth if needed. You can add vegetables like broccoli, bell peppers, or carrots to the skillet with the beef.
