Equipment

  • Large Skillet or Wok
  • Small bowl
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Paper towels
  • Tongs or spatula
  • serving plate

Ingredients

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Sesame seeds optional garnish
  • Chopped green onions optional garnish

Instructions

  • If using frozen shrimp, thaw completely and pat dry with paper towels.
  • In a bowl, toss the shrimp with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  • In a separate small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and water to create a slurry.
  • Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  • Add the shrimp to the skillet in a single layer (work in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding).
  • Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until the shrimp is pink and opaque. Be careful not to overcook the shrimp.
  • Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  • Add the honey garlic mixture to the same skillet.
  • Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring constantly.
  • Pour in the cornstarch slurry and continue to simmer, stirring constantly, until the glaze thickens slightly, about 1-2 minutes.
  • Return the shrimp to the skillet and toss to coat with the honey garlic glaze.
  • Cook for another minute, or until the shrimp is heated through and the glaze is sticky and glossy.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions, if desired.
  • Serve immediately over rice, noodles, or with your favorite side dishes.

Notes

Don't overcook the shrimp, use fresh garlic for the best flavor, and adjust the sweetness and spiciness to your liking. The honey garlic glaze can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Add pineapple chunks, sriracha, or different herbs for variations.
