Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Stirring spoon

Ingredients

  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ¼ cup dry white wine
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

  • In a large skillet, melt the butter with the olive oil over medium heat.
  • Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using) and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
  • Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until pink and opaque. Don't overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if necessary.
  • Pour in the white wine and let it simmer for 1 minute, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
  • Stir in the heavy cream and lemon juice. Bring to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes, until the sauce has thickened slightly.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Stir in the chopped parsley and serve immediately over pasta, rice, or with crusty bread.

Notes

For a thicker sauce, simmer the cream for a longer period. If you don't have white wine, chicken broth can be substituted. Sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, Parmesan cheese, or smoked paprika can be added for extra flavor. Overcooking the shrimp and burning the garlic are common mistakes to avoid.
