Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Air fryer
  • piping bag or zip-top bag
  • Large star tip (optional)
  • Shallow Dish
  • Tongs
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Mixing Bowls

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Water
  • ¼ teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • Cooking Spray
  • ½ cup Granulated Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Ground Cinnamon
  • Pinch of Salt

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the butter is melted.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and immediately add the flour. Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon or spatula until a smooth dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  • Let the dough cool slightly for about 5 minutes. This is important to prevent cooking the eggs.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. The dough will look a little curdled at first, but keep mixing until it becomes smooth and glossy.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract to complete the dough.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). If your air fryer doesn’t have a preheat function, just let it run at that temperature for a few minutes.
  • Transfer the churro dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip (or just use a large zip-top bag and snip off a corner).
  • Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  • Pipe small, bite-sized portions of the dough (about 1-inch long) into the air fryer basket, leaving some space between them. You'll likely need to do this in batches.
  • Air fry for 6-8 minutes, or until the churro bites are golden brown and cooked through. Keep a close eye on them, as air fryers can vary.
  • While the churro bites are air frying, prepare the cinnamon-sugar mixture. In a shallow dish, combine the granulated sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
  • As soon as the churro bites are done air frying, immediately transfer them to the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  • Toss to coat thoroughly using tongs.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

For best results, ensure the dough is smooth and not overmixed. Don't overcrowd the air fryer basket to allow for even cooking. Store leftover churro bites in an airtight container at room temperature; they are best enjoyed within 1-2 days. Reheat in the air fryer for a minute or two to restore crispness. Serve with chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, or dulce de leche for dipping.
